What is Stream Guard?

How Stream Guard Works

3 min

Stream Guard sits between your local machine and the streaming platform, maintaining a safety buffer of pre-uploaded video segments. When your internet drops, the relay continues feeding segments to the platform from the buffer.

Key Points

Your local FFmpeg converts RTMP from OBS into HLS segments
Segments are uploaded to the relay server ahead of playback
The relay maintains a configurable safety buffer (10-300 seconds)
During disruptions the relay drains the buffer to keep the stream alive

Details

The buffer acts like a time-shifted delay. Your audience sees content that was uploaded seconds ago, giving you a window to recover from connectivity issues.

Once your connection resumes, the buffer automatically refills without any manual intervention.
